How to open a netSpend / Brinks Savings account with 5% interest and a $20 account bonus

I always initiate from the external bank side and it is free.

It is free if you initiate ACH pull from outside.

You can transfer money between your netSpend account and Brinks account because they are using the same system and each account has a FlashPay ID. In netSpend account, click MOVE MONEY->SEND MONEY, set up a contact using your Brinks account's FlashPay ID, and then you can transfer money to this contact. Note that you need your netSpend debit card number and CVC2 to do the transfer. Vice versa, you can transfer money from your Brinks account to your netSpend account.

Do they charge any ACH fees? Especially for pulling money out?

Any limit on the referrals someone can provide? Can I refer 20 people and get $20 a pop?

I always initiate from the external bank side and it is free.

It is free if you initiate ACH pull from outside.

I do not think there is a limit.

It is very easy to do so because you only need to ACH $500 into your debit card account one time from your external bank account. After doing that, your debit card account will be upgraded to a premier account automatically. Because we are not going to use the debit card for shopping, we can just keep the debit card in the pay as you go plan and there is no monthly fee. Otherwise, if you put your debit card in the feeadvantage plan, you need to pay a $5 monthly fee, so don't do it.

I dont care about 5% interest- I just want the $20. Which one do I pick?

I believe OP is right. One of the footnotes on the Premier Acount page states, "Enrollment in the FeeAdvantage fee plan is optional."

I think I am right because that is exactly how I set up my account: a premier account with pay as you go plan.

EFFECTIVE APRIL 1, 2013, THE SAVINGS ACCOUNT WILL FEATURE A TIERED VARIABLE INTEREST RATE. THIS MEANS THE INTEREST RATE WILL BE 4.91% WITH AN ANNUAL PERCENTAGE YIELD OF 5.00% FOR BALANCES UP TO, BUT NOT EXCEEDING $5,000.00, & FOR THAT PORTION OF THE BALANCE THAT IS $5,000.01, OR MORE, THE INTEREST RATE WILL BE 0.49% WITH AN ANNUAL PERCENTAGE YIELD OF 0.50%. THE INTEREST RATES AND ANNUAL PERCENTAGE YIELDS ARE PROMOTIONAL RATES AND MAY CHANGE PURSUANT TO APPLICABLE LAW. Interest is calculated on the Average Daily Balance(s) of the Savings Account and is paid quarterly. No minimum balance necessary to open Savings Account or obtain the yield.

I opened an account last July, and have not had any problems with them at all.

ProfessorEd said: I assume they calculate interest on a day to day basis, rather than on minimum balances in a month or such. The latter would make them much less useful to me, since I am looking for a place to park funds that will eventually be put into the stock market..

Siince they use average daily balances, it looks like you will earn interest even on deposits that are there for only a few days. One may have to be careful about closinig the account early, or letting it be closed by them for no money, and avoiding fees while waiting for the last interest to be credited.

(7) Note that if you do not have an activity in your debit card account in 90 days, netSpend will charge you a maintenance fee. But it can be easily avoided. You can schedule ACH transfers in your external bank account to automatically push $5 into your debit card account and then automatically pull $5 out of your debit card account. This will generate the needed activities.

Anyway, after my first $500 I got upgraded to Premier - they sent me the new card and I was able to open up the bank account (which got funded mostly with VRs before I got the warning).

Looking at my activity over the past 6 months, I see that I did a pull like this end of October 2014 and that my next activity was not until the beginning of March - way longer than 90 days.
