Bank Of America Adds Mobile Check Deposit To iPhone App

It may be harder to get cash from Bank of America as its ATM network shrinks, but starting this week it'll be easier for customers to give the bank their money.

On Tuesday, the Charlotte, N.C.-based bank made life a bit easier for its 10 million mobile customers by adding a mobile check deposit feature to its iPhone app.

This feature allows an account holder to snap photos of the front and back of a check and deposit it into one or more accounts remotely.

The service, which works on the bank's iPad app, will be available for Android or Windows-based phone in the near future, according to MyBankTracker.com.

JP Morgan Chase was the first big bank to debut mobile check deposit at the end of 2010, and other banks have followed suit. Citibank, First Republic, PNC, USAA and several other banks and credit unions currently offer mobile check deposit services. Wells Fargo is currently testing mobile check deposit in several markets and is expected to make it widely available by the end of the year.

The rise in mobile banking comes as banks look to cut costs by closing branch locations. Bank of America has said it planned to shutter 1 in 10 branches by 2014 and, overall more than 1,400 bank braches closed between 2009 to 2011 in the United States, the Boston Globe reported. Regulations changing where banks can get revenue and compliance costs have contributed to branch closures.

Bank of America Android App Finally Gets Check Deposit Feature

Finally. The largest bank in America; Bank of America has finally got a feature to remotely deposit checks to your bank using your Android device. Several other banks already had this feature for a while, but the latest update for Bank of America, which was rolled out today, now allows users to deposit checks using their mobile phones or tablets.

While several other banks like Chase already had this feature for ages, BofA was the only bank which did not have it. Today’s update to the Bank of America app adds the following features:

– Make check deposits

– Choose the BankAmeriDeals™ you want, and earn cash back

– Receive Bank of America Alerts as push notifications

– Securely send money to others, using their mobile number or email address (requires enrollment)

I am definitely happy with this update because it was definitely becoming a pain lugging around those checks to an ATM or bank branch just to deposit. Finally, I can now deposit checks to Bank of America while I am lazing around in my house.

You can get the latest features by updating the app on your device or by download it from Google Play.

I actually did this exact same thing (apply for two BoA Alaska personal cards on the same day this week) even though I have two open already. I came across the site above through google and while I was approved for the first one, the other was pending. Unfortunately the reps consistently stated they do not make decisions and that is another department internally that cannot be contacted. I attempted to speak to 6 different individuals and kept getting the same message.

Seeing this post prompted me to check the site again to find I was indeed approved for the other card, just an FYI to others though.

Nice! Glad you got approved!

Thanks for this helpful post. @Derek – Thanks for the data point!

I applied for three AS cards last weekend. This is my first time applying for the AS card. Two personal – one approved, one still pending. One biz – approved. Hopefully, all three cards only cost 1 hard pull.

Looking at Derek’s comment, it looks like you don’t need to close existing AS cards before applying for new ones. Right? (Holding 2 and still got another 2 approved. Wow!)

I also wonder if there is a ‘max’ number of active AS cards before BoA says “you have too many AS open already so we cannot give you new ones”? Maybe 4 is the ideal number.

Applied for five mlb cards with different logos. Got approved for all 5. Will let everyone know bonus results
